My "before" Projects

Here are a few things that I um...."found"....well actually I "took" them....out of the trash. Oh my kids get so embarassed when they find out I "dumpster dive". I got these a few months ago and just haven't done much with them. The mirrored shelf unit I am painting white. If you look back at my very first post I have a pic of one similar to this that I saw at a poshy shop while in NY visiting my daughter. I am sure theirs cost more than mine! The large brass and glass hanging fixture is going to get an overhaul. The glass is an awful shade of green! I think I might remove it and put some pretty gathered fabric in its place and paint it white as well. The petite brass chandelier will get a coat of glossy paint...I just haven't decided on a color yet. I am going to put moss and ivy in the wire basket...maybe hang it on my back door! Stay tuned for the "after" pics!

Chilly but Fruitful Weekend

The weather has been really yucky here in the midwest....cold, rainy, windy! What happened to spring???? Well, I decided it was a great weekend to hit a few of my favorite jaunts. So, I headed out to the "Ann Arbor Antique Festival" in Ann Arbor, Michigan. It is about an hour and a half from me so it always feels like an adventure. They have several shows a year and this was the first one of the season. I felt so sorry for the dealers that had outdoor booths....besides the frigid weather...the wind was blowing things all around. I ended up going inside to get warm but I have to say that my best finds were from the outside dealers. My camera needs battteries so I'll post the pics later.

The most fun, however was a place I had heard about but never visited....."Treasure Mart" also in Ann Arbor. Well let me just say that it really IS a treasure mart! It is a consignment store and packed with so much it is almost overwhelming! Not so overwhleming....I picked up a few things there too!

That was Saturday....

On Sunday, I made my usual trek to the "Royal Oak Flea Market" in.... you guessed it Royal Oak, Michigan. It is only 30 min from me and I try to go there every Sunday as they often have great deals. Some of my favorite vendors know me (I have been going there for over 15 years!) and are gracious enough to let me take something home and try it. Like any flea market it is "hit or miss".....I don't usually "miss"...I usually find something that screams "Take Me Home!!!" haha

So my living room is full. My daughter says I am a "hoarder" I prefer to think of myself as a "collector". We don't have a basement so while I unpack, clean, and price things...they sort of pile up in the living room until I can take them to my antique booth....Or....keep them for myself! hehe. I hope your weekend was fun, productive, relaxing, whatever you wanted it to be!

Have A Wonderful Week.

Living "Green".

Is there anything more "green" than buying vintage and antique things that have lasted for generations???? I love the things that have been loved tothe point of wear. It is what makes them so beautiful. I rarely buy "new"....especially when there is so much out there to covet that has a history. I hope to share with you some great things that I have found new uses for and fun ways to redesign them. I also will introduce you to some amazing women that I have met who do just that. I will showcase one of their shops weekly with pictures of their shops and locations if you are in the area. They are totally worth it! Look Monday for the "Woman of the Week" showcase. In the meantime.....have a wonderful weekend. I am headed to the Ann Arbor Antique Festival in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Can't wait to share my goodies with you!

It's about time!

Oh I am soooo embarassed! I started this blog and then realized that I had no idea what I was doing and it kind of scared me away. Then just today Jodie and "Everything Vintage" posted the most awesome advice for the "wannabe blogger". In essence she advised those of us who are just dipping our toes into the water of blogging to.....jump right in!!! So Jodie....that is exactly what I am doing so I hope I don't drown! Thanks so much for your post....it gave me the courage to do this. I hope I don't disappoint.

I am a lover of old, tarnished, antique, vintage, stuff. So much so that my living room is right now as we speak filled with things that I need to take to my antique booth. My problem is that i only bring home what I LOVE! So, I have to really, really work at giving things up. I want to keep it all! But of course....I can't. So I hope to share these lovelies with those of like mind. I started an etsy shop today.....haven't listed anything yet though....have to get the camera out and take some good pics. In the meantime, I will keep everyone posted as to when it opens.

Any advice that anyone has out there as to how to do all of this....blogging, picture taking, selling, etc.....I will be soooo grateful !!! And I promise to post often....not wait 6 months between posts!

This is a really cute shelf unit from Brocade Home. The store is located in SoHo in NYC and has a lot of really cute things. But then I got to thinking that it would be easy to get the look. I found a nice vintage wall shelf unit that has a similar frameat the Royal Oak Flea Market this morning that is from the 40's, I think (I will post a pic as soon as I get it out of my car). By painting it with a high gloss white paint.....it will have the same look....AND I only paid $7 for it! Add $4 for the paint....well you get the idea.

Welcome

I have been planning on starting a blog for some time and I decided that I will just have to learn as I go. This blog is going to be a work in progress for some time, but I hope to make it one that you will enjoy following. I will be posting photos of my projects (refurbishing some of my found treasures), my antiques, and some really great places to hunt for your own treasures! I love to mix the old with the new in decor as well as mix variousperiods. I am not a purest when it comes to antiques....I don't collect any one style or period and it doesn't even have to be super old.....or valuable. In fact most of the fun I have is finding things at flea markets that catch my eye....sometimes for no apparent reason! So, come visit here again soon and I will do my best to make it fun and beautiful.
